Charity Instrument Drive
May 18 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm| Free
In Calgary, many children miss out on the opportunity to develop their musical talents due to the high cost of lessons and instruments. Two grade 12 high school students in Master’s College discovered this while completing a graduation assignment requiring them to make a difference in their community. Being passionate about music and members of the music program here at Master’s, Jared Cappon and John Kohler independently came to the conclusion that they would help remove the prohibitive cost of instrument and lessons by creating an “Instrument Drive”. Realizing they needed a place to donate the instruments, they researched and discovered the Legacy Children’s Foundation, an organization that receives donated instruments, refurbishes them and makes them available, along with lessons, to Calgary youth that would otherwise not have the opportunity to develop their talents.
This Thursday and Friday (May 17-18), from 8 am -5 pm each day, these two students will be accepting, at our school (Master’s College, 4414 Crowchild Trail SW) anything related to music such as guitars, woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, cases, cables, amps, sheet music, amps, keyboards, recorders, etc., in any condition. (No pianos due to their size.) Donors will be issued a tax receipt, if requested, for the value of the instrument as determined by the Foundation’s appraiser. They will also accept tax deductible, cash donations to pay for student’s lessons and for the refurbishment of instruments.
Additionally, these talented musicians will be busking in the school, using donated instruments, from 11:25-12:15 pm on both days in support of this initiative.
