CORE Celebration is a citywide worship gathering featuring a rich musical program including choir, instrumentalists, singers, and many local musicians from the professional and church communities within our city. Guest musicians include Alex Hughes: The soulful voice of this 26 year old country singer will grab you. Born and raised in Calgary, Alex started performing at the age of 7, won the Calgary Junior Idol competition at the age of 14 and was subsequently chosen in Canadian Idol at just 16 years old. Later, the Calgary Stampede Talent Search garnered her awards, as well as the Country Vocal Spotlight at the Global Country Star Search. Travelling to Nashville, she was a multiple award winner at the North American Country Music Association International Awards. Most importantly, Alex is married to Tyler, she loves Jesus and she wants to share her gift of music with us! And Corps Bara Dancers: Recognized as one of Canada’s leading pioneers of liturgical dance, Corps Bara continues to push the boundaries and raise the standard of dance as a faith-expressed art form. Expressing their passion for life, art and community, Corps Bara Dancers will share their collective vision to achieve their God given artistic destiny. The CORE Celebration Choir will be singing to accompany the dancers. Selections include Kontakion, Famine Song and an original piece, Deanne’s work, based on theme of light. Our Guest speaker is Deanna Witwer: Corps Bara’s Artistic Director has worked professionally with Corps Bara Dance Theatre for over ten years, during which time she has acted as Artistic Director, dancer, choreographer and rehearsal director. Witwer spent two years training independently in Brussels, Belgium, and in her travels fueled a passion to create art that is not self-indulgent, but that fosters engagement and dialogue between artists, audience and beyond.
