8th Annual Calgary Peace Walk
March 30 @ 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm| Free
The 8th Annual Calgary Peace Walk is Saturday March 30, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. beginning at the north end of the Peace Bridge on Memorial Drive, near 8th Street NW.
Calgarians of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds are invited to join the short walk through our downtown area to make a positive statement and create a sense of global community. This Peace Walk is an opportunity to acknowledge each individual’s value and worth, and to promote peaceful and compassionate practices. Peace begins within each individual and is amplified by joining together in community. Just as a rock dropped into a pond sends ripples out into the water, gathering together will send a ripple of peace into the world around us.
For each of the last three years, more than 100 Calgarians have attended this free, family-friendly walk. Participants are encouraged to share songs, quotes and messages about Peace, as well as place Peace Rocks along the route.
This year, the Peace Walk will be launched just after 2:00pm with the singing of “Channel for Peace”, a song created in 2014 as an Anthem for this Annual Peace Walk.
The first 50 walkers to arrive at the Peace Bridge after 1:45 pm will be gifted with a filled stainless steel water bottle, courtesy of Unity of Calgary.
This year’s Peace Walk is organized by Calgary citizen, Tina Thrussell, who says, “The Peace Walk started with a handful of Calgarians eight years ago and has grown each year. This is an opportunity for all Calgarians to take a more positive stance. Instead of Fighting / Marching /Protesting against anything, we come together to take a stand for Peace.”
