Time to Recycler those Christmas Trees

Posted by Mel Risdon  |  POST A COMMENT

Calgarians are being reminded that Monday is the first day that the city will be accepting Christmas trees as waste for curbside pick up.

The city of Calgary will be picking up trees with regular garbage within two weeks of Jan. 9.

Residents are asked to remove all ornaments, tinsel, and the tree stand before putting it out on the curb.

Trees should not be wrapped or bagged on the curb before pickup.

They should be placed about a foot away from the black bins to ensure those are emptied properly.

Once trees are collected, they will be turned into mulch and used in city green spaces.

For residents who decide they wish to drop off their tree for recycling, they can use one of eight drop-off locations open to the public until Jan. 22.

They are:

  • Fire Hall #15 - 6328 35th Ave. N.W.
  • Prairie Winds Park - 223 Castleridge Blvd. N.E.
  • Bottomlands Park - St. George's Drive and Seventh Ave. N.E.
  • South Calgary Community Association - 3130 16th St. S.W.
  • Parks Compound - 10312 Sacremento Dr. S.W.
  • Spyhill Landfill - 69th Street and 112 Avenue N.W.
  • East Calgary Landfill - 17th Avenue and 68th Street S.E.
  • Shepard Landfill - 114th Avenue and 68th Street S.E.
