1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Yesterday I was complaining because I have had some challenges in a few areas of my life that don't seem to be going away any time soon. And I was discouraged because I felt like it was really all for nothing. But thank the Lord for my husband - who kindly reminded me what the point of suffering is: to follow the progression in this passage. Rejoice in the hope of the glory of God AND in sufferings, because they produce perseverence, which produces character, which produces hope - and THAT is NOT a disappointment because God pours His love in our hearts! So instead of complaining today, I'm choosing to rejoice.
