Brain Workouts
The part of the brain responsible for short-term memory and learning new facts gradually shrinks as we get older, you can stop or even reverse this by doing some of the following activities
Here’s your list before I FORGET
Exercise, which increases blood flow to your brain
Turn off the TV. A studies show people with Alzheimer’s watched more TV & were less physically and mentally active as they hit middle age than people who didn’t get Alzheimer’s
Challenge your powers of navigation. Turn off the GPS when you’re driving someplace new and use a map. Try to remember the route so you can make the return trip by memory.
Do math in your head. For example, keep a running total of your purchases in your head while you’re grocery shopping – I HAVE TO DO THAT
Prepare new recipes. The more unfamiliar the ingredients and cooking style, the more you’ll have to focus on instructions, techniques and timing, which helps boost your planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.
Finally:
Learn a musical instrument, buy furniture you have to assemble, or fix things at home, like broken remote controls and clogged sinks. This helps exercise the area of your brain used for fine motor control, movement, balance, and muscle coordination.
