Home Rules? Is there a list you can refer to at your house? Might sound hokey but rules simplify explanations, clarify expectations and create a consistent environment for every body in the family and should include friends that are visiting too! The Home Rules should be simple enough so little ones can remember,… because they can tend to forget and well grow- ups tend to think they don’t apply to them!
Having “Home Rules” keeps the focus on the rules in general and not the enforcer so to speak. It empowers little ones to speak up and leaves little argument for older ones to say “I didn’t KNOW”
Here is an example of some basics.
They’re “IFFY” but make no mistake about it – they RULE
If you slept in it – make it.
If you wear it – put in laundry basket
If you drop it – pick it up
If you eat out of it – put it in the sink or how about the dishwasher
If you step on it – wipe it off
If you open it – close it
If you empty it – fill it back up
If it rings – answer it
If it meows or howls – take care of it
If you’re a reading this then let me add NO hitting, spitting or pushing, name calling, yelling or cursing.
